Family Album

Family Album    2018

Family Album explores the search for personal roots, family memory, and the fragile connections between generations. The project begins in my grandmother's house, where family photographs have been carefully preserved in albums, brought out on special occasions, and accompanied by stories of people and moments from the past.

The translucent interleaving paper separating the photographs becomes a central element of the work. Its delicate patterns twist, intersect, disappear, and reappear, resembling the complex and often fragmented relationships within a family. The paper simultaneously reveals and conceals, reflecting the incomplete nature of inherited memories.

Some photographs are missing, while others carry handwritten notes or traces of their previous owners. Faced with unfamiliar faces of relatives I have never met, I am left to imagine the missing connections and reconstruct stories that can no longer be fully recovered.

The project reflects on photography as a carrier of memory, where absence, material traces, and imagination become as significant as the images themselves.
